Fall 2020 -Back to School Guide

There are many questions revolving around this year’s back to school plans for the fall season. At Jump Start, we understand that there is a level of uncertainty and confusion regarding school reopening. This year’s most important back to school supplies might be noticeably different from other year’s school supply lists, however, for your convenience we’ve gathered important information and resources to help you navigate the upcoming school season.

Though guidance varies, many districts are encouraging or requiring students to wear face masks while riding the bus and on school grounds. Given that the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend anyone over the age of two wear a face mask when in public, you should consider purchasing masks for your child to wear to school if they are attending, regardless of their school’s stance.

Whether your computer choice is a laptop or personal computer (PC), you’ll definitely need one for your child if they do return to remote based learning. Additionally, in order for your child to complete and submit emails, assignments, projects and exams; they’ll need a strong internet connection that they can rely on. Be sure to also have USB flash drives on hand as well. The flash drives can be used to backup important files or documents that your child may need for submitting projects online.

We’ve compiled a Back to School shopping list and guide to help you get started:

  • Backpacks
  • Face masks
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Notebooks, folders and binders
  • Staplers
  • Crayons, colored pencils, washable markers and highlighters
  • Index cards and sticky notes
  • Pencil cases
  • Pens, pencils, erasers and rulers
  • USB flash drives
  • Tablets, e-readers, netbooks or computers
  • Healthy fruits & snacks
  • Get your children’s rooms and desks organized
  • Write down your children’s schedules in a planner and go over them
  • Set alarm clocks so everyone wakes up on time
  • Schedule an appointment with your physician to make sure your child is up to date on required immunizations
  • Start implementing an earlier bedtime and set routine so your children are ready for the day

Being prepared, having an action plan and managing time efficiently are all great ways to get into the back to the school spirit. However, when it comes to the core subjects, your child will need to stay focused and engaged while keeping up the pace with their courses whether at school or online.
